Measuring the effectiveness of traffic sources

Recruitment Marketing Public

Calculating the return on investment (ROI) for recruitment marketing is an important function for any talent acquisition team. This module gives you the tools to do just that.

The platform’s robust analytics feature delivers data on which channels are delivering the most candidates to your recruiting content, how many of those candidates are starting applications, and, providing the ATS integration allows for the data to be passed through to Recruitment Marketing, how many candidates coming from each channel have gone on to be marked as successful and subsequently hired.

This information is provided in the Top Sources section of the Traffic report. To determine which channels are delivering traffic to your career site and see how much of that traffic is converting into quality applications in your ATS, please follow the steps below.

Viewing data for all traffic

  1. From the side menu, under Reports & Logs, click Reports.
  2. Click on the Traffic tab.
  3. Enter a Date Range to filter your results.
  4. Enter a Candidate location to view results for candidates in a particular region only. The results will update as filters are entered.

Filtering the Top Sources data

  1. In the Top Sources section, click View All to display more options.

  2. Generate a report on the next page where you can fill in the following details:
    1. Name: Give your report a name.
    2. Date Range: Use the drop-down menu to select a date range.
    3. Show Costs: If relevant, toggle this option on.
    4. From the Session drop-down, select either:
      1. First visit: To look at the source of the candidate’s first visit only.
      2. Each visit: To look at the source of the candidate’s first visit and all subsequent visits. Individual candidates will be counted multiple times if they make multiple visits to your career site from multiple channels within the specified date range.
    5. From the Traffic channel drop-down, select the relevant option:
      1. All Channels
      2. Jobs Boards
      3. Search Engines
      4. Social Networks
For more information, see Viewing traffic source analytics for details.
    6. Toggle on the option Include all page views within a session if required. The table will now update to reflect your filtering choices.
  3. If it helps, you can use the filters on the page to narrow down the information to what you need.
  4. Click Generate report.

The generated file will appear in the section below the filters giving you the option to download or delete.

Other Top Sources

You can also find other Top Sources available in the following Report tabs:

  • Pages: Scroll down to the Top Sources section and click View All to filter and generate a report.
  • Jobs: Scroll down to the Top Jobs section, then click on the job link you're interested in. This will open a page where you can scroll to the Top Sources section and click View All to filter and generate a report.
  • Blogs: Scroll down to the Top 5 Posts section, then click on the post link you're interested in. This will open a page where you can scroll to the Top Sources section and click View All to filter and generate a report.

Discrepancy in counts

Be mindful of your filters and how they will impact results tables. For example, if you have specified a particular date range and are filtering by "First visit", your results in the file generated will exclude any candidate whose first visit occurred outside that date range; even if they have visited the site since, submitted an application, and/or been hired.

Those candidates will, however, be counted in the Candidates reports page overview for the same date range, as this page does not apply a "First visit" filter, resulting in a higher number of "Hired" candidates shown for the same date range.
